When you think of superheroes, you probably think of Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, or even the Hulk! But in June, in honor of Father’s Day 2017, Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N. held a “My Father, My Hero” contest where kids submitted a story about why their father is a hero to them! The Grand Prize winner received four (4) year-long passes to Marvel Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N. , tickets for four to Mystère by Cirque du Soleil, and a Marvel Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N. merchandise prize pack! Runner-ups received a Family Four Pack of tickets to Marvel Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N. and a Marvel Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N. merchandise prize pack!
The Grand Prize submission was from Dominic, Isabelle, and their Mom:
“My dad is my hero because he protects us and he is fun to play with. He makes family time priority and we get to be really silly together. I know he loves me. We spend time playing sports and he teaches me about life. Iron-man, Hawk-eye, Hulk….all those guys have nothing on my dad! I have the best dad there is!” – Dominic, age 6
“He always catches me before I fall and has helped me throughout life after my stroke. I love spending time with dad and he always sings me, Frank Sinatra, before bed. He helps me through every therapy, runs beside my adaptive bike and lets me know how amazing I am. I enjoy our special time together and love him so much!” – Isabelle, age 8
“Thank you for considering my husband, Jason, for the My Father, My Hero contest. He has made many sacrifices for our family, is our support system and has a strong work ethic that he passes along to our children. He’s amazingly patient and kind.” – Wife and Mother
The 2nd place winner, was 16-year-old Kaitlyn Driscoll whose dad is a first responder and has served as an NYPD officer for 20 years! Kaitlyn explained that her Dad was at the World Trade Center site when the first tower fell and worked at Ground Zero for months afterward. He was later diagnosed with colon cancer but after surgery, he is now cancer-free!
“Marvel designs superhero role models for kids everywhere, but I actually have a true superhero who thankfully comes home to me every night after saving people in distress, little dogs running along the highways or removing dangerous people looking to cause harm to others. Meet super hero James Driscoll, my dad.” – Kaitlyn, age 16
The 3rd place winner was the Ochoa family:
“My dad is my hero because he loves me. He teaches me and makes me laugh. He is there for me. He makes sure that I am safe. He never misses a game. My dad is better than a hero because I know he will always be there for me.” – April, age 13
“My dad is a hero because he is awesome. He makes me laugh when I am cranky, he tickles me when I am angry and hugs me when I am sad. He helps me and teaches me how to do things. I know he will always be there and will always help me.” – Havanna, age 12
“My dad is my hero because he loves me. He cheers me up when I am sad and hugs my pooh bear. He is funny and goofy. He makes me laugh when I am upset. I love my daddy.” – Tatiana, age 8
“My dad is my hero because he prays over our food when we eat, he works hard so we never have to be poor and teaches us to help those who have less, and he helps others which tells me I should. He’s my hero because he loves me.” – Cristofer, age 8
“My husband is my hero because he is the father I dreamed of for my children. Since the day our first was born, he has been there. Through our ups and downs Erik has been the stronghold of our home. He is my hero because he makes me a better mom. He is my hero because I couldn’t see us without him. It doesn’t hurt that he buys us ice cream all the time :)” – Wife and Mother
